Bills CB Stephon Gilmore: I hope I cover Rob Gronkowski

All week leading up to the Patriots’ season opener, Steelers defenders talked about how physical they were going to be against tight end Rob Gronkowski. Gilmore’s exact words when speaking to the media on Tuesday:

“I want him.”

Stopping Rob Gronkowski is no easy task, as the Steelers confirmed last week. The plan worked pretty well, as Graham was held catchless on six targets in the win. So it only made sense for the magician to incorporate that into a trick he performed for the tight end. And for cornerback Stephon Gilmore, that means not backing down from challenges.

“I hope I get Gronk, to be honest with you”, he said, via Tyler Dunne of The Buffalo News.

“We’re not going to ask just one guy to cover him”, Ryan said. “But like I said, it’s whatever the coaches want me to do to help this team win”.

As he has to a certain extent with Tom Brady, Ryan’s defenses have managed to slow Gronkowski down in the nine times the big tight end faced the Ryan-led Jets.

In seven games against against the Bills, Gronkowski has been, well, Gronk-tastic.

They focus more on the outside receivers, particularly with Julian Edelman, who would avoid going up against the opponent’s top corner in this instance. We don’t really know yet, what our game plane is.

The Patriots return to action Sunday at Gronkowski’s hometown Bills. It will be an interesting matchup on Sunday if the two are paired against one another.
