Bills drop defensive battle to Ravens 13-7

The Bills fell 13-7 to the Baltimore Ravens and the offense did not look pretty.

In 2015 Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor threw the ball 20 or more yards down the field on almost 20 percent of his passes. Safety Eric Weddle coordinated a backfield that limited the Bills to 111 yards passing, and wide receiver Mike Wallace caught a 66-yard touchdown to give Baltimore a 10-0 lead in the second quarter.

Buffalo used the elusiveness of Taylor in the pocket to close to 10-7 before halftime.

Bills coach Rex Ryan also has some familiarity with the Ravens, spending nine seasons on their coaching staff, including four years as defensive coordinator.

Ryan – known to make a bold prediction or two – offered one while praising Reed’s contributions as a coach. Other than that, our guys did well on defense. “We are excited about putting our best foot forward on Sunday”. Buffalo will hand the reigns over to Tyrod Taylor who was extended in the offseason to be the team’s franchise quarterback and his play making abilities certainly make him worthy of being designated as such and with a handful of weapons around him the Bills could surprise a number of people on the offensive side of the ball. “Sometimes they bring more than we can block”.

-The Buffalo Bills had the league’s top rushing attack last season, averaging 152 yards per game. “It’s a great team that we’re going against so we got to prepare”. We had only one long drive in the game and that’s not good enough to win.

“I don’t play for the money”, Taylor said Wednesday.

“However, it’s just our first game”.

The Ravens are also in a tough division, the AFC North.

But while the offense struggled, veteran safety Corey Graham, a former Raven, saw plenty of blame to go around.

And you know what?

Even if they’re incomplete deep passes, you’re keeping the defense in their toes. This included personal foul penalties by linebacker Jerry Hughes and cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman on the same drive in the third quarter. The Ravens backups performed admirably enough to keep them competitive in every game they played a year ago, with the exception of Weeks 14-15 against the Seahawks and Chiefs, respectively. Held them to 13 points.

“It feels good”, Flacco said of his left knee. We’re both smart and physical players. “(But) I thought we’d make a few more plays than we did”.

So, as you can see there is some legitimate reasons to worry.

“He’s as good as it gets”, Ryan said.

Wright made 11 tackles and Smith put the clamps on Buffalo standout receiver Sammy Watkins.

“We lose a game”, he said. “As a rookie, a guy coming out of college, getting a chance to play there (in Baltimore), I’m definitely thankful for the opportunity”.

Didn’t we hear a lot of those glowing reviews about supposed saviors, from EJ Manuel back to Rob Johnson? “Two years later, I’m going there as a starter with a year under my belt”.
