Bills fire offensive coordinator after 0-2 start

After running back Matt Forte gave NY a 13-7 lead with a one-yard rushing touchdown, the Bills followed it up with a drive that eventually stalled out due to an offensive holding penalty which took away a first down conversion, and later resulted in a Buffalo punt.

Buffalo had the NFL’s top-ranked rushing offense in 2015 but the passing attack was 20th. This came against a Jets defense that was ranked sixth in Adjusted Defensive NEP per play last season.

“I haven’t talked to anybody that isn’t excited about the move”, said one of the people, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

After the New York Jets claimed their first road victory of the season, against the former coach they couldn’t beat past year, the familiar chant rang out from the visitor’s locker room, “And the home of the Jets!”. He arrived in Buffalo talking about making the Bills an on-field bully.

The Jets (1-1) snapped a five-game skid against Buffalo, which included a 22-17 season-ending loss in January that eliminated NY from the playoffs. Rex had an in-his-prime Darrelle Revis in NY and Ed Reed in his time in Baltimore.

The Bills’ offense sputtered in a 13-7 loss at Baltimore on Sunday, and now it was their defense that showed cracks against the Jets.

Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets put a rough start to the season behind them with a big rebound victory. Below are the ranks for the Bills by Adjusted NEP per play overall, both for the pass and run on both sides of the ball.

His success can also be measured on the field.

Whatever case it is, this Bills version of Rex has created an inconsistent team, and in turn, that’s just what we’ve seen from the franchise. Matt Forte also ran all over, with three touchdowns inside the red zone.

And yet he’s still here, with the Bills sitting at 0-2 and in full panic mode in Week 2 of the National Football League season. Rapoport reports the presence of offensive players is why many people believe the owners may have played a role in firing Roman, even though Rex claimed the decision was all his.

Wesley Johnson, the team’s backup center, replaced Carpenter and played well against the Bills.

Roman also has overused screen calls during his time with the team.

Buffalo lost to the Ravens in Week 1 and only mustered 160 yards of offense.

But the defense was atrocious past year, too, And the Bills still haven’t made the playoffs since Bill Clinton was in office. But, I’m guessing he figured firing Roman buys him a little more time. Ryan should be on thin ice in Buffalo, and the release of Roman is a desperation attempt to make it look like some action was taken. Ryan has coached through job whispers before, but it’s unsettling if it becomes an issue so early in his Bills tenure. That’s not the Rex Ryan that took the Jets on by storm.
