Bills fire offensive coordinator Greg Roman

That’s why it came as a shock to many when the #Buffalo Bills had fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman, following the team’s rocky 0-2 start to the 2016 National Football League season.

Roman was replaced by assistant head coach/running backs Anthony Lynn. Now he’s out of a job as the Bills need someone to blame for their poor start. As a coach, according to the Buffalo News “He’s either coached a 1,000-yard rusher or a team that combined to rush for over 2,000 yards in 12 of the last 13 seasons”.

So they fire the guy calling the plays, despite putting up 31 points, nearly 300 yards passing and just under 400 yards of total offense?

The Buffalo Bills fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman on Friday in a bid to kick start their sputtering Tyrod Taylor-led attack.

“I think, obviously, it’s going to be very challenging”, Ryan said. “But this is a decision that I think, going forward, is going to help our team and that’s why I did it”. “I believe that and I believe we’re going to do what we can to put the ball in our playmakers’ hands and I think Anthony can do that”.

The defensive-minded head coach using his offensive coordinator as a scapegoat the day after giving up 37 points and almost 500 yards to a division rival. “I think he’s a rare talent”.

Levy missed his third consecutive practice Friday with a quadriceps injury and has played in parts of just two games since he signed his new contract in August 2015.

Ryan is nearly surely coaching for his job at this point; while the Bills have suffered injuries and suspensions, the team nonetheless has the talent to make a feasible run at a wild-card berth.

But the defense was atrocious previous year, too, And the Bills still haven’t made the playoffs since Bill Clinton was in office. He brought in Ed Reed to add to the coaching staff, because that’s another one of ‘his guys’.

Ryan, who meets with owners Terry and Kim Pegula after every game, explained how the decision was finalized.

Roman was so eager to join Ryan’s staff he turned down opportunities with other teams and stayed near the Pegula’s home in Florida following his interview.

Rex Ryan – the coach who said the decision to fire Roman two games into the season was “my move, without question” – was not present for these meetings. Since he has been the coach the pass rush has gone the way of the buffalo and completely vanished.

It simply wasn’t aesthetically pleasing to watch Buffalo play offense through two weeks, but it was Shangri-La compared to watching Ryan’s stubborn attempts at calling a defense, which kept using a single-high safety look while leaving the cornerbacks on an island against the Jets despite the fact they were getting gashed time and time again.
