Bills lose linebacker Ty Powell to season-ending knee injury

Nothing epic, but predictable. “Whether it’s here or whether it’s somewhere else, I don’t know”, Manuel told The Associated Press on Monday, after the Bills finished a joint practice with the Cleveland Browns. There’s no guarantee this young man makes our team.

“It definitely raises the level of intensity”, Bills offensive guard Richie Incognito said. They’ve got a lot of pride. “I’m glad I’m not the one making the decision”. Understand we’re not going up there to have a pillow fight either (laughter). We take our shots at each other.

That wasn’t the case Monday.

It probably surprises nobody that the outspoken Bills coach had to have some fun at his player’s expense.

Although Pettine has been an NFL coach for more than decade, he, like the Browns, have very rarely participated in the combined practices. Starter Josh McCown said, “Just heartbroken, just heartbroken”. “We want to compete, competitive not combative”. You don’t want to hurt anybody. I’ll talk about it with Rex when we get up there. “But there is an urgency that picks up when you’re going against somebody with a different jersey on, for sure”.

Cassel started and was followed by Taylor, before Manuel entered in the third quarter of an eventual 25-24 loss. It happened during a team drill when Browns running back Jalen Parmele ran to his left toward Powell. And the Browns’ offense wasn’t able to get a whole lot going against the Bills’ D, especially on the ground.

Browns backup center Ryan Seymour has been suspended by the NFL without pay for this season’s first four games for taking a banned substance. The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and exhibition games.

Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan is already ribbing his newest defensive end, IK Enemkpali, for the incident that led to his release from the New York Jets. “To me, it is competing against somebody other than your own”. “He did get a little baptism by fire and things, but I like the way the kid’s responded”.

When the Bills moved into the red zone for a second 11-on-11 period, Cassel found Davis for a one-handed grab in the end zone on about a 25-yard pass. A few plays later, it was back to Woods for a touchdown over Gilbert on a fade pattern.

“I look forward to putting this behind me, and right now, I’m focused on continuing to work hard, being a good teammate and helping my team improve for the remainder of the preseason”, he said.
