“It is sort of weird being honored for the worst day of your life”, observes Billy (played by newcomer Joe Alwyn), and that’s this movie in a nutshell – it exists in the dizzying space between our sentimental celebration of the troops, and the harsh realities they face every day. Those were shot at 48 frames per second though, 2.5X slower than what Lee has done, so depending on how you reacted to Jackson’s films, you’re either really excited or really pessimistic about Billy Lynn. Watch the debut teaser trailer above.
Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk stars a a new actor Joe Alwyn playing the titular role.
We recently praised his last feature, Life of Pi, as one of the greatest films based on supposedly “unfilmable” novels and for his next film, Ang Lee is once again pushing technology forward with another adaptation. Directed by Ang Lee, the film will debut on November 21, 2016 – just in time for Thanksgiving.
Written by Jean-Christophe Castelli based on Ben Fountain’s bestselling debut novel, the film follows 19-year-old private Billy Lynn who, along with his fellow soldiers in Bravo Squad, return home temporarily for a victory tour after surviving an Iraq battle, Variety said. Along with cinematographer John Toll, Lee has utilized an ultra-high frame rate of 120fps in an attempt to capture the experiences of wartime in the most realistic way possible.
