Music executive Birdman has plenty to boast about with his Cash Money Records empire having sold 1 billion records to date.

Birdman and Lil Wayne have reportedly been hit with a hefty $3.3 million (£2.5 million) bill after sampling obscure tracks from veteran songwriters.
“You” peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2007, becoming Lil Wayne’s second Top 10 single. The suit alleges that Llyod’s “You” samples “True”, a song by British rock group Spandeau Ballet. It also topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart during that same year.

The lawsuit was settled and the pair was ordered to pay $3.3 million to the original songwriters, who were not named on the website. Wayne claims Birdman shorted him millions of dollars in royalty payments and is seeking to splice his Young Money label from Cash Money. The history of internal lawsuits within Cash Money is extensive and only growing longer as time goes by. He claims the money was used to pay back debts Birdman accrued with Cash Money. However, it was recently reported that a federal judge won’t allow Wayne’s lawsuit against Universal Music Group to move forward until his dispute with Birdman is resolved.
