The BBC said Mr Wright had given technical proof supporting his claim to using bitcoins known to be owned by bitcoin’s creator.

Wright cited Hal Finney, a well-known cryptographer, as one of the engineers who helped develop Wright’s ideas for Bitcoin, BBC News notes.

I believe Craig Steven Wright is the person who invented Bitcoin.

Jon Matonis, an economist and one of the founding directors of the Bitcoin Foundation, also backed up Wright’s claim.

Each key is a unique a digital code that is linked to specific bitcoins. Though the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto has always been a secret, it is thought that there are relatively simple ways that the person behind it would be able to prove that connection.

“Our conclusion is that Mr Wright could well be Mr Nakamoto, but that important questions remain”, The Economist said. New Bitcoins are created, or “mined”, when people with powerful computers solve hard math problems.

In its GST Treatment of Digital Currency consultation paper released on Tuesday, Treasury stated three options for changing how the GST impacts digital currencies: Input tax treatment similar to the United Kingdom and Europe where Bitcoin is regarded as akin to share trading, loans, or exchanges of foreign currency; changing the definition of money in the GST Act to include Bitcoin; or explicitly stating that Bitcoin is GST-free in the same manner that food is GST-free.

Wright ousted himself in order to “educate the public about the science and economics behind his inventions”, the magazine says.

Craig Wright, an IT and security consultant from Australia, has claimed that he is the enigmatic Bitcoin inventor.

The greater Bitcoin community, however, remains skeptical of the claims, as much of the cryptographic evidence supplied by Wright has since been refuted or is unverifiable. Mr. Wright told the BBC that he was cooperating with the Australian Tax Office.

The same day his north Sydney home was raided by Australian federal police in connection with a tax investigation, unrelated to bitcoin. In fact, some have challenged Wright to provide more technical evidence of his identity.
