Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today attacked BJP government at the Centre over the suicide by a dalit student and said it was caused due to “environment of intolerance developing in the society”.

It may be recalled that on August 20, 2015, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah had similar incident at the state guest house that was derided by the RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The BJP leader’s comment came in the backdrop of the chief judicial magistrate’s court yesterday accepting the plea of government lawyer for withdrawal of the case against 262 RJD leaders including Lalu Prasad, his sons Tejaswi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav besides state party chief Ramchandra Purve related to vandalism. He also questioned if Nitish Kumar government would set free Mohammad Shahbuddin, an accused in a kidnapping case, under pressure from Lalu and his family.

The government, Kumar said, is taking steps to stamp out organised crime and if someone gets a threat, he or she should report it to the police in time.

In a scathing attack at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the senior BJP leader asked “What happened to his pre-poll assurance to people of “main hoon na”.

“Will the state government likewise take back thousands of such cases involving agitation by employee unions and citizens who staged protest and jammed road against the state government?” he asked.

The case was filed previous year on July 27 for vandalism and preventing government officials and stopping vehicles of at least three Patna High Court judges during the bandh call. The high court had summoned the state chief secretary to explain the government’s position on the bandh, he said.

He also alleged that the killings clearly showed that Nitish does not have control, and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad was directly running the coalition government in Bihar.
