Jammu: The Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday termed as baseless the “rumours” that there were differences between PDP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of distribution of portfolios in the new government.

After her meeting with the Governor, Ms. Mufti said the focus of her new government would be on peace, reconciliation and development in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba said she was happy that both coalition parties during the past two-and-a-half months have reiterated that they would implement the Agenda of Alliance (AoA) to provide good governance to the people. “We have extended our support to PDP for the formation of the government”, he said. But the meeting was deferred at the last moment as discussions between the alliance partners over allotment of portfolios remained inconclusive.

In Delhi, the PDP drew flak for aligning with the BJP. “I am happy that we have got assurances at the highest level from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely and BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav”.

The sources said PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s oath ceremony will be a low-key affair.

The PDP had been demanding an economic and political package for the state, which includes handing over to the state power projects run by the central government undertaking NHPC, compensation for flood victims, vacating private land occupied by security forces and talks with separatists. That is something we can sit together and sort out.

“…when you are in a coalition you have to accommodate each other’s priorities and each other’s preferences”. “Besides government formation in alliance with PDP, the decks have also been once again been cleared for Dr Nirmal Singh as Deputy CM candidate, ” said Sharma. The state was placed under Governor’s rule on January 8 after the demise of then chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7. Both the sides had formed an Agenda of Alliance which sought to address internal and external dimension of the state.
