BJP plays down buzz over Rajnath as CM face for UP

The probe against the Chief Minister and his family members was initiated following graft allegations against him during his tenure as the Union Steel Minister from 2009 to 2011.

There was no truth in these reports, the veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader told the media here. However, even his well-wishers acknowledge that his appeal is not uniformly spread across all caste groups, with at least some continuing to be wary of him despite his efforts to dispel their reservations, a factor which, among several others, will be in play when the leadership decides to project, that is, if at all, someone as its CM candidate or, even appoint the president of the campaign committee.

Singh, who was addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh when the crowd kept interrupting his speech. He also added that there would certainly be the CBI investigation into the incident if BJP forms the next government. The party has also invited booth-level representatives from districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP wants to focus in the assembly polls.

This was stated by the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at a rally organised to highlight the schemes of the two-year-old Narendra Modi government in Mau, Uttar Pradesh yesterday.

“In the days to come, passengers will get more facilities than those available in developed countries”, he said.

Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said the investment in the sector has grown from Rs. 48,000 crore to Rs. one lakh crore past year and will be further increased to Rs. 1.21 lakh crore. An “upbeat” government and party will chalk out its future approach, the leader said.

He said that after witnessing misrule of SP and BSP, people of the state are now in favour of BJP.

In his address to the national executive, Shah is expected to reflect on the “upbeat mood” after the party’s victory in Assam and the rise in vote-share in Kerala, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

Former party MP Ramakant Singh, who had unsuccessfully contested from Azamgarh against SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and lost narrowly, said Singh’s projection as chief minister could “hit” the party prospects hard in the state.

The saffron party has made the right start by appointing an OBC face in Keshav Prasad Maurya as the state unit chief. Though the Samajwadi Party leader won the election, Ramakant Yadav emerged as the BJP’s most prominent Yadav face in UP.
