BJP want to end reservation in the country: Nitish Kumar

“I did not cancel the dinner in the name of Narendra Modi…I got trapped in the “chakkar” (influence) of Sushil Kumar Modi”, Kumar had said at a function here about the cancelled dinner which had created misgivings within BJP. “This is a risky thought”, the chief minister said. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad reiterated the line he had taken on Monday at a briefing in the BJP office, saying this was the stand of the party as well the government.

“It is clear that he (Mohan Bhagwat) feels the current policy of reservation is not right and wants some other system”, Kumar said, while reading out excerpts of Bhagwat’s interview to RSS mouthpiece “Organiser” and “Panchjanya“.

The Sena said Babasaheb Ambedkar too had called for a review of the reservation guaranteed by the Constitution after 10 years depending upon the prevailing circumstances.

Bhagwat’s pitch for a review of reservation policy has prompted the alliance of Nitish Kumar and Prasad to mount a counter attack on the BJP-led NDA, which is trying to dent the grand alliance’ strong backward castes support base.

A couple of days ago, there was a huge uproar over RSS Chief’s statement on existing reservation policy.

However, by the 1970s, when Balasaheb Deoras became the third leader of the RSS, and nudged the organisation towards active political participation, the idea of building a pan-Hindu, pan-Hindi electorate crashed against the harsh realities of caste and its divisions and absurdities. Since inception it has been politicised.

With the controversy brewing up over Bhagwat’s remarks, the RSS in a statement suggested that its chief’s remarks during the interview were misconstrued in the media.

“If we would have implemented this policy as envisaged by the Constitution makers instead of doing politics over it, then the situation would not have arrived”.
