BJP won due to false propaganda: Assam Cong vice president
The better idea would be to focus on building strong bridges with parties like the TMC, AIADMK, BJD and even SP and BSP, though upcoming assembly elections in UP makes it a hard proposition, to corner Congress in Parliament. Is the question we seek to answer.

Holding the DMK-Congress “laggard” alliance responsible for its failure in Tamil Nadu, Jaitley said that their poor strike rate pulled them down, while admitting that the grand old party’s alliance with the Left in West Bengal was an ideological compromise, which nevertheless proved counter-productive. While the BJP won 60 seats on its own, the AGP and BPF secured 14 and 12 seats respectively. The electoral standing of the Congress has been reduced to less than the regional parties whilst the BJP has successfully emerged as a national party with ever growing presence in all parts of the country.
Assam went to the polls in two phases on April 4 and 11, while West Bengal saw polling in six phases between April 4 and May 5.
The ruling All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) won eight seats and the AIADMK grabbed four.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s main national opponents lost control of two Indian states on Thursday, diluting their ability to thwart legislation that’s key to his reform agenda.
The party, in power nationally until 2014, was leading in only one state – the southern Indian seaside town of Puducherry, a former French colony with less than a million eligible voters. As a Congress wag was heard laughing: “maybe that is why they won Assam”. But having been kicked out of power in both Assam and Kerala, the Congress will likely be on the back foot.
Assam voted for change with Congress, which had been in power for the last 15 years, being routed by the BJP-led alliance which is ahead in 80 out of 126 seats. “Your suggestion is spectacular, we reject it outright”, the Congress leader said. 40% of the remaining vote share has gone to the AIUDF, Independents, AGP and Bodo Peoples Front in that order.
The party’s Rajya Sabha member alleged that the root cause of Congress’ “worst performance since Independence in Assam” is “false propaganda” by BJP and its allies.
Party general secretary Mukul Wasnik said state leaders were responsibile for state-specific results.
West Bengal: In terms of seats and vote percentage the Trinamool Congress has swept.
It is in these two meetings that BJPs chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal is expected to be formally elected as the leader of the joint legislative parties, paving the way for his oath-of-office as the next Chief Minister of Assam. BJP, on the other hand, is going from strength to strength – 6.03% five years ago, 10.45% in 2014 and 10.5% now.
In the Assembly polls, 2011, the BJP managed to get just five seats. The BJP will provide constructive opposition in Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, to protect the interests of the people of these States.
Tamil Nadu: The BJP has drawn a blank. The Congress had 42 seats now with one more it is 43 and the Left Front which had 40 seat now reduced to 26 seats.

Puducherry: The Congress got 15 seats, the BJP zero. At a rally in November, one prominent BJP leader accused Congress of harboring a “secret plan” to surrender Assam to Bangladesh.
