Black Friday crowds thin in subdued start to holiday shopping

Called Black Friday, but now actually beginning up to a week before Thanksgiving, when brick-and-mortar and online retailers begin boasting seasonal sales, the day after the nation’s day of thanks has always been seen as the official start to the holiday gift shopping season. Any growth would be a reversal from previous year, when retail spending over the Thanksgiving weekend fell 11 percent.

Crowds at the major retailers across the USA proved today that Americans are willing still to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to score a deal on Black Friday.

Whether it’s crazier on Thanksgiving or Black Friday, during the holiday season employees are going to stay busy while customers shop until Santa Claus drops down the chimney. This year, he noted, the company put 96 percent of its door-buster deals online, up from about 90 percent last year. “Then, we made a decision to go to Dolphin Mall and finish our shopping”. “The good news is the vast majority of customers were able to check out successfully”.

Yet again, trend experts say there’s no single item that’s making shoppers run to stores.

What is changing is when and how people shop.
