Black Friday hasn’t changed as much as we like to think
Two shoppers exchanged blows and wrestled each other to the ground in the middle of a crowded shopping centre in Kentucky on Thanksgiving evening, November 26. The federation found that 135 million shoppers will shop this holiday weekend. “I’m trying to come in and see if they have any deals and things like that, like at Neiman Marcus and stuff like that”, he said. “There’s many deals right now, so I’m really excited about that”.

Starting my morning at 6 Friday, I hit five malls in five hours, beginning with Concord Mills, then on to Northlake Mall, Charlotte Premium Outlets, Carolina Place Mall and SouthPark Mall.
This year, it appeared that some mall-goers may have been filming fights in order to be featured on, say, the WorldStarHiphop site.
Linda Cooper, a manager at JCPenny in the mall, said her store opened at 3 p.m. Thursday, which was the first time the chain opened so early on Thanksgiving. “Yeah this is like my sixth of seventh year out so, ” said Parenteau. Both local and national law enforcement officials were also on hand to make sure everything went well.
The shoppers couldn’t wait to get inside as soon as the doors opened. “We didn’t have to fight very much, traffic or people”, said Sauder.
Among the coveted electronic items, the one mentioned the most was a large flat-screen TV. I think it’s because most people got here last night when they opened. Still today, there are small kiosk owners in the mall, for example, who rely on Black Friday to keep their business going.
A police officer breaks up the fracas and one of the combatants picks up a dropped shopping bag before his friends usher him away. “Last year we were in the same position”.
“We just came to see if we could find a good deal”. Shoppers I spoke with generally said the day was similar to a year ago and way less of a frenzy than it was has been historically.
