Black Friday is only the start of weekend shopping binge in US
But it’s expected that more than three times the number of people who shopped on Thanksgiving will venture out to shop on the day after the holiday known as Black Friday.

Shoppers spent more than United States dollars 1.7 billion on online purchases on Thursday, which showed an increase of 25 percent from the same period of time previous year, beating market prediction of an 18 percent increase, Xinhua cited an Adobe Digital Index (ADI) report as saying on Friday.
Christopher North, managing director of Amazon.co.uk, said: “For the second year straight, customers in the United Kingdom have blown us away with their response to the many great deals on great products that we’ve made available for Black Friday”.
Total sales on Black Friday fell 10 percent to $10.4 billion this year, down from $11.6 billion in 2014, according to research firm ShopperTrak.
With major retailers including Walmart, Target and Macy’s opening on Thanksgiving, some eager shoppers were able to get a jump start on their holiday to-do lists. She said she tries to hike every year after Thanksgiving and likes to avoid the shopping crowds. Many would spend Thanksgiving evening combing through circulars to plot their shopping route for the next day based on the deals they hoped to snag.
More than 135.7 million customers were planning to go shopping during the long holiday weekend according to figures released by the National Retail Federation.
With so many options of where to browse and shop on the Internet these days, is Cyber Monday really relevant anymore?
After a disappointing third quarter performance, Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren said he’s encouraged by the retailer’s Black Friday crowds.
“I’d rather appreciate nature, rather than being at a mall or watching TV”, Rojas said. But in recent years, retailers have tried to capture holiday sales earlier and earlier.
Shopping on Black Friday is not a tradition for him, said Marrocuin, who was visiting family in Dixon. Some on Friday morning said they had already shopped online or visited the mall the night before.
At Academy Sports + Outdoors, celebrating its first Black Friday in Johnson City after opening in April, the line stretched around the building before the doors opened. That prompted many to offer deep discounts as early as the beginning of this month.
“Expect at best a 4.5 percent increase in spending over a year ago and a tepid Black Friday”, BCG Senior Partner Michael J. Silverstein said in a Fortune article.

If you are heading up to the mountains this weekend you better be prepared for some slick roads, and officers with the California Highway Patrol say you should have chains in your trunk just in case.
