Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton speaks…
Clinton sat silently through a ceremony for the families of “The Emanuel 9”, then during her later remarks praised them for their “grace and resilience”.
Clinton also promised to ban federal employers from asking about the criminal background of job applicants in their initial interviewing stages. “This is example of my continuing concern in that we don’t have our records ready”, she stated in an email sent in April 2012.
Vowing to stand against systemic racism and injustice as president, Hillary Clinton took her criminal justice platform to the south on Friday while rallying black voters in Atlanta.
The State Department has been releasing the more than 55,000 emails Clinton received and sent when she was secretary of state in monthly batches after they have been examined and electronically converted. The change would give job seekers a chance to first prove their qualifications.
In a previous email dump last month, social media users highlighted a plethora of amusing and odd emails from Clinton, which covered everything from her favorite TV shows to updates on Kyrgyzstan.
Mrs Clinton has changed her position since she has been on the campaign trail, calling for the end of mass incarceration and expressing her concern over police violence and black people.
At multiple campaign stops, the Democratic presidential front-runner outlined her plans for criminal justice reform, an issue that she and her rivals – Vermont Sen.
In Atlanta, Clinton today called for eliminating sentencing disparities between crack cocaine crimes and those involving powder cocaine.
The convention center was filled with hundreds of Clinton supporters and NAACP members from across the state, including family members of the people who were killed in Emanuel AME Church.
The latest release of emails comes amid continued questions about whether Clinton and her staff mishandled any classified or sensitive government information in her inbox.
Clinton already has built a network of African-American leaders in those early states. Georgia is among several states stretching from Virginia to Texas that will hold March primaries.
Yet the move also elevated Southern Democrats, increasingly synonymous with black Democrats as white Southerners defected to the GOP.

Mr. Sanders said he agreed with Ms. Clinton’s initiative on ending sentencing disparities but any “serious” criminal justice overhaul should include his proposal to remove marijuana from the list of the most risky drugs outlawed by the federal government, a step Ms. Clinton has not endorsed.
