A Black Lives Matter protest marched through the streets of downtown Tulsa Tuesday night.
With all the recent controversies surrounding white supremacy and police brutality toward black people, Jay Stalien poured his thoughts by sharing his own experiences living as a black law enforcement official in a city filled with black people.
Melina Abdullah, Black Lives Matter organizer and California State University Professor and head of Pan-African Studies, spoke in an interview Monday, July 11, about police terrorizing black communities instead of protecting them. This was following the aftermath of the police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile that sparked their protests recently. But the statistics also disclose that the rate of white-on-white homicide is in fairly close range, at 82%.
GIULIANI: if I were a black father and I was concerned of my child, really concerned about it, and not in a politically activist sense, I would say, “be very respectful of the police. majority are good. some can be very bad. and just be very careful”. As in, “only black lives matter.” but no one is saying that. “That’s anti-American and it’s racist”.
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton offered a mixed review of Guiliani’s comments, saying that some of his criticisms of Black Lives Matter are “appropriate”.

Bratton asserted that policing is “a shared responsibility” between police officers and civilians, and said “everybody’s voice needs to be heard”.
