Black Lives Matter Protesters Shut Down Chicago, Call For Rahm Emanuel Resignation
Emanuel has resisted calls to resign after the McDonald shooting video was released after 13 months, prompting murder charges against the Chicago Police officer who shot sixteen times.

Emanuel spoke of black residents’ mistrust of Chicago police, saying it’s unacceptable that some officers treat black people – particularly young men – differently than they do whites, and that there are parents in Chicago who feel they must warn their children to be wary of officers.
“How long did he think he could go on like this?”, Flowers said.
The 16-minutes represents the 16-times Laquan McDonald was shot by CPD officer Jason Van Dyke.
On Monday, during a lengthy news conference in which she outlined why Hernandez was justified in shooting Johnson in the back, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez released the video.
One local minister told CBS Chicago he’s not convinced the mayor will bring any real change to the Chicago Police Department.
Wednesday morning’s speech will come two days after U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced a Justice Department civil rights investigation to determine if there are patterns of racial disparity in the police department’s use of force.
Officials fought for months to maintain the footage from being released, attempts that coincided with Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s re-election campaign, during which the mayor was seeking African-American votes in a tight race in court.
In his own hypocritical statement on Monday, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said, “Something is wrong here, either the actions of the officers who dragged Mr. Coleman, or the policies of the department”.
About 500 people marched from City Hall to Millennium Park, at times stopping traffic and making sharp, unexpected turns that forced police to scramble to catch up.
Protests continue in Chicago as many are calling for the resignation of mayor Rahm Emanuel.
More on Ford’s interview from CNN can be found here. But the city released a video this week of officers, several of whom are black, using the stun gun, then dragging an apparently unconscious Coleman away by his wrists.
“It is one thing to train officers on fighting crime”, he said.
“We’ve seen the dramatic differences in health outcomes for different populations in our city, and we’re not okay with the idea that some populations are more safe than others, and certainly not that it comes from places as high up as our mayor’s office”, said Josh Eloge, a medical student at Rush Medical College.
Alderman Leslie Hairston, whose ward also encompasses parts of the South Side, including the University of Chicago, backed Emanuel’s comments about people being treated differently due to their skin color.
Brown said she was battling laryngitis and stressing over finals earlier this week when she created a seemingly incendiary Facebook event. The city has opposed release of video in the case.

In the evening the demonstrators gathered at Chicago Police Headquarters for a police board meeting. As required by city law, the board will nominate three candidates for the mayor’s consideration.
