Black Panther fetches $201.8 million for its three-day debut, breaks records
The movie, named for the first black comic book superhero (created in 1966 by Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby) is the 18th film to be spawned from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the new Avenger has become a phenomenon for being the first black superhero in the mainstream media. At one point in the film, he describes Killmonger as “A monster of our own making”.

Chris Pratt sings praises for Black Panther, calling it a “thought-provoking movie”.

Black Panther is Marvel’s attempt at being “woke”, and it confronts colonialism, racism and nationalism in profound ways, while also crafting a vision of black womanhood that’s both inspiring and empowering. Jordan and his character were within the film. Not only was the acting and directing great in this movie, but the plot and writing of the movie was exceptional as well. His ultimate sticky fate is death at the hands of Spider-Man foe Morlun (yet to be seen in the movies). “That is just great to be happening at this point in time, that is just awesome”. It’s defying assumptions about films with black casts and filmmakers having limited appeal…just as “Wonder Woman” did for female leads and directors. These are just some of the cast members of the Wakanda movie. Coogler, did a great job filming the fight scenes they were compelling and dynamic just like the ones he directed in Creed.

Colorism is real in black communities worldwide, and it’s especially prevalent in Hollywood when it comes to the types of black women who play leading roles in films and get nominated for awards.
