Black Women Who Were “Too Dark” To Enter London Club Protest Discriminatory

Two women were turned away from top London nightclub Dstrkt for being “too dark” and “overweight”, it has been alleged.

Staff at DSTRKT, a nightclub which has entertained the likes of Drake, Rihanna and Jay-Z, are also said to have stopped women coming in for being “too fat”.

When the group arrived shortly after 10pm the girls claim they were told they couldn’t come in because the club was full.

Allegedly, the women were told that the staff felt that one of them was “too dark” and another was “too fat”.

The 26-year-old says other women have since been sharing their experiences of getting into clubs.

To fight back against a policy, which sees skinny light-skinned women prioritised over larger, dark-skinned women, the friends started a hashtag: #DoILookDstrkt and protested outside DSTRKT where Chris Brown’s ex Karrueche Tran did a live PA.

Lin Mei, 29, wrote on her blog that she had been invited to Dstrkt by the promoter who later told her that if her friends were black they would find it “harder to gain entry” as they are usually “not good enough”, adding ‘a lot of them think it’s racism but it’s just the door people being real’.

They then watched in horror as other women were allowed in after them.

“It hurts me to the point where I get emotional because we are seen as “less than” just because of the way we look”. Miller asks all those considered “ugly” to come dressed to kill to protest the club with banners with the hastag, #doilookdstrkt.

Model and actress Karrueche Tran was at the club on the night of the protests. Prior before her friends showed up, Norton was told to not invite, “too many black girls”. I have godsisters and family who have darker skin as well. When the promoter, who had initially given them approval, inquired about why they weren’t allowed in, he was informed that staff members felt that a few of the women were unattractive. I don’t support any sort of discrimination.

Dstrkt has not yet commented on the claims, although the BBC reported that someone identifying themselves as the manager insisted the club does not turn away anyone based on race.
