Others chanted “Black Lives Matter” in the wake of the death of 18-year-old Mansur Ball-Bey of St. Louis, who was killed by police officers Wednesday morning after he allegedly pointed a gun at them.

Chief Sam Dotson said the wound’s location neither proves nor disproves the contention of officers at the scene that Ball-Bey refused to drop a gun and pointed it at them before being shot Wednesday.

Mansur Ball-Bey was an aspiring rapper; as a rapper, he went by “ManMan”. The coroner’s report on Friday raised more questions with Ball-Bey’s family about the police account, increasing the desire for the adoption of body cameras.

Police-involved shootings are automatically reviewed by a Force Investigation Unit and by the Circuit Attorney’s office. And the new facts by themselves do not paint a complete picture. Witnesses will be interviewed separately. He called for patience during the investigation. “I just don’t know yet”.

That standard is designed to take into account that police officers frequently must make split-second decisions during fast-evolving confrontations and should not be subject to overly harsh second-guessing. “We all want the same thing, so let’s work together on this”. Ball-Bey could not have run more than a few feet after being shot, he added.

Dotson, unreachable Friday by The Associated Press, has pledged a thorough internal investigation.

“Based on the forensics from that autopsy and what we know (of the) statements made by police, the two stories are not jiving”, said Jerryl Christmas, one of the attorneys that represent the family.

Klinger said the Supreme Court has ruled it constitutional for police to shoot someone in the back if they believe that person could be a threat.

Dotson said he wanted the community to come together lawfully. That’s when Ball-Bey and another suspect took off running out of the back door of the home. According to police, Bell-Bey aimed a weapon at two white officers who returned fire, killing him.

Bryce Harvey is a barber whose business is close to where Ball-Bey was killed. Following the incident, crowds gathered at a nearby intersection shortly after the shooting and then again in the evening. He said police responded the way they did because people were breaking the law.

His death sparked a night of protests and the deployment of officers in militarized gear in an area already high with racial tension. He said officers were working 12-hour shifts and days off were canceled.

“The police were in this neighborhood doing their job,” Slay said at a meeting with the St. Louis Clergy Coalition, a group of black ministers. “When police have committed a crime, I hold them accountable”.

Police released video shot from the perspective of officers, showing objects flying in their direction and the crowd running from the approaching police line with raised shields and sticks.

The St. Louis area in Missouri had just been flooded by protesters from across the United States marking the first anniversary of the killing of Brown by a white police officer.

He said police officers were “assaulted” Wednesday night in an environment that was “out of control”. “There are a lot of people in this community concerned about this case”, she said.
