BlackBerry CEO Hints to Second High-End Android Smartphone in 2016
However, when asked about an approximate timeframe for the second Android device, Chen said, the possibility of a new handset entirely depends on how BlackBerry Priv performs in the next couple of months. BlackBerry CEO John Chen confirmed that the company might design a second Android powered device.

During its earnings call, BlackBerry reported approximately $222.8 million in hardware revenue, down from $361 million in the year-ago quarter. Unfortunately for us, Chen has been a bit cagey with information if the increase in revenue is due to the Blackberry Priv’s sales performance. On the plus side, BlackBerry did say that the average price of the smartphones sold in its last quarter was $315, a big year-over-year improvement from the November 2014 quarter’s figure of $240.
During the last quarter, BlackBerry reported an nearly 12 percent increase in its revenue amounting to $548 million. According to him, the company is planning to expand the availability of Priv from four countries to 31 countries in the next 2-3 months.
During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Mr. Chen said the respond to BlackBerry’s Priv strategy has been encouraging so far since its launching on November 6.
Still, 700,000 is just not a lot of units to move in a quarter, any way you slice it. Apple regularly sells more handsets in just a single day, following a new iPhone release, than BlackBerry moved all quarter.
An Android phone with a middle-of-the-range price is the most likely device BlackBerry could debut next, Chen said.
However, John Chen did not talk about any specific time frame for the launch of the phone. Now they are hoping to build on Priv’s success and continue in the same upward trend.

In addition to expanding its customer-base, Good Technology fills in voids in BlackBerry’s EMM portfolio with Good Dynamics and more advanced content management capabilities. The Priv’s $699 U.S. price puts it in league with high-end Android phones like Samsung’s Galaxy S6. Fortunately, the first BlackBerry Android smartphone performed considerably better than the other units launched previous year, which used the BlackBerry 10 OS, the report relays.
