BlackBerry DTEK50 successor leaks online, likely to sport fingerprint scanner

Blackberry’s (BBRY,BB.TO) Argon is likely to be launched as its third Android smartphone, the DTEK60, according to a product page that might have been accidentally hosted on the struggling company’s us website. The former Argon will also include 21-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel front facing camera, with USB Type-C connection and 3,000mAh battery.

This September 28 will see BlackBerry hold an earnings call event, during which more light will be shed on the performance of the company in the Android world.

A page with the probably-shouldn’t-have-gone-live extension “donotpublish.html” has been spotted over on BlackBerry’s own website, detailing a handset that sounds very similar to the previous Argon rumors.

Crackberry reports that the purported DTEK60’s leaked specs come from a webpage on a BlackBerry server that was not meant to go live.

There is also a fingerprint sensor for security, and a convenience key.

BlackBerry DTEK60 was apparently leaked on the company website for a brief period of time but for a long enough time for tech blogs to take notice. The page does not contain any information on pricing or availability. BlackBerry had advertised its DTEK50 as well as Priv as the most secure devices. Rumours also suggest that this BlackBerry smartphone will have a curved look but there has been no confirmation yet.

Can BlackBerry revive hardware business? The DTEK60 is set to be a larger and more powerful flagship model.

But CEO John Chen has so far shown no inclination to get out of the hardware business, having promised earlier this year to release two mid-range, Android-powered phones before the company’s fiscal year ends February 28, 2017.

The specifications for the new phone show that BlackBerry is gunning for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 7 with its latest effort, as well as other flagship devices.

Rival devices from the likes of Samsung, HTC, Motorola and Sony are some of the best-looking smartphones available.
