Chen who made the revelation while showing off the company’s first Android powered device, Priv at the Code/Mobile event in California said that mobile phone maker was targeting five million smartphone sales next year to stay in the handset business.

The leak came a few days after BlackBerry officially confirmed the Priv. In an unveiling and unofficial hands-on presentation by Chen, the new device was hinted at to be coming out with premium specs and a premium price.

For many months this new device was dubbed the BlackBerry Venice. You can now sign up to be made aware of its arrival, so go do that if this is something you’ve been waiting on. The Android handset would also come pre-installed with DTEK, BlackBerry’s warning system app – one that has not yet been detailed.

The Priv which is being touted as the “world’s first BlackBerry secure smartphone powered by Android” has an ‘ultra-thin body with a keyboard hidden by SmartSlide technology.’ The phone comes with a 5.4-inch dual-curved screen, according to BlackBerry.

The above details match with the previously leaked but unconfirmed specs so far.
