BlackBerry Will Talk About New Handsets Next Week

John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, was unhappy with Apple CEO Tim Cook for not attending a hearing on encryption last week, and BlackBerry CEO John Chen grabbed this chance to score, according to Patently Apple.

“One of our competitors, we call it ‘the other fruit company, ‘” has an attitude that it doesn’t matter how much it might hurt society, they’re not going to help”, said Chen.

At the Security Summit, Chen said he has been “disturbed” by Apple’s performance and hard work in keeping its devices and messaging services secure.

He went on to explain that the new mobile devices would be explained at a later date. He added that the announcement would be made by BlackBerry COO and General Manager of devices, Ralph Pini.

Interestingly, Chen slightly altered the conversation, saying there need to be “clear guidelines” in place in order to assume that civil responsibility. He recalled his experience with 9/11, and the role BlackBerry played to keep people connected in a time of crisis, saving lives and enabling him to restore command centers to manage the crisis and how this influenced his mission to keep people safe as we move into an increasingly digital and interconnected world.

It is not the first time that Chen has waded into the debate about device security. The Argon is expected to arrive sooner than the others, as it will come to the market by this October.

CrackBerry reported that Blackberry will be shining some light onto their new smartphones next week. The media will be beautifully taken with the BlackBerry Argon’s 21 megapixel rear camera and 8 megapixel front camera. It may also sport fingerprint sensor and USE Type-C.

Lastly, the BlackBerry Mercury may sport a 4.5-inch full HD display, powered by Snapdragon 625 processor, and a physical QWERTY keyboard.
