Blackfriars Road and St. George’s Circul were closed temporarily around three o’clock this afternoon as police moved in.

Traffic has been severely disrupted but the road, which leads on to Blackfriars bridge, has re-opened.

Reports say a large police presence – including a helicopter – was at the scene as they dealt with the matter.

“They now remain in custody at a south London police station”.

It comes as the Belgium capital Brussels has been put into lockdown over terror fears.

Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen armed officers and pictures on social media show a auto with a Belgian number plate being searched.

The arrests come after Met Police officers carried out a controlled explosion on Thursday night after Baker Street tube station was evacuated.

Police have been on high alert since the Paris terror killings last week, and the hunt continues for members of the cell who were involved in planning and realising the attack.
