Blaine Gabbert earns another start for San Francisco 49ers

A day after a 17-16 win over the Falcons, the 49ers announced Gabbert will start against the Seahawks on November 22. Replacement quarterback Blaine Gabbert threw for 185 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, one of which came off a Jerome Simpson drop.

On the flip side, though, if Tomsula can somehow guide the Niners to an 8-8 record, which would match what the team did last year amidst all the injuries that the roster suffered, then there is a chance that he could convince management to give him another year.

These moves worked, as Gabbert was not sacked all day.

“Anytime you don’t play up to your standards, we’re all going to evaluate what we need to do differently”, Ryan said. San Francisco is no stranger to that style of defense, of course, and Gabbert knew it was going to be important not to force the matter downfield when it wasn’t there.

Gabbert was far from ideal.

Quinn fielded several questions on Monday about his decision to kick a field goal when trailing by four points with the ball inside the 49ers 2-yard line and 3 minutes remaining. Wide receiver Jerome Simpson bobbled a sure-catch on the first and rookie outside linebacker somehow came down with the grab for the second. Celek has been in-and-out of the lineup, but with the trade of starting TE Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos, Garrett stepped up with both TD receptions from Gabbert.

“I know everybody wants to know everything right away, but I’m going to speak to the people here and the lives it directly affects”, he said. “In the past, that’s kind of who I was”. Also his name is really fun to say, which makes me happy. Freeman wound up with eight catches for 67 yards and Jacob Tamme six receptions for 61 yards….

Cadet has been mostly a pass-catching specialist in his four seasons in the National Football League, having caught 45 passes for 345 yards and two touchdowns in 42 games for New Orleans and New England.

The game was another slow start for the Falcons on offense.

Gabbert completed 10 of 16 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, leading the 49ers to a 17-13 advantage. This is positive headway for this unit.

“He was confident our defense would get the stop”.

There are plenty of signs, especially on offense, that the team needs the open week. At the halfway point of the season, there is no excuse to not be able to make improvement.

In what might actually be an infinitely better situation than the one he was in with Jacksonville, Gabbert now has his opportunity extended, as he will start for the 49ers when the take on the Seattle Seahawks at Century Link in two weeks.

Miller, who carried the ball Sunday for the first time all season, said the team will prepare “the best we can for Seattle with whoever plays back there”.
