Blaine Gabbert: Will start after Week 10 bye

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is reportedly playing his last season with the team, as it is “virtually certain” that he will not be back next season.

Even if the players were new.

Gabbert played well in Sunday’s 17-16, throwing two first-half touchdowns and then helping seal the game with a five-yard bootleg run for a first down on the 49ers’ final drive. Really proud of them. He has worked extremely hard.

Johnson’s moment was one of many fine plays from a banged-up secondary that was without the team’s top three cornerbacks.

Gabbert isn’t Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady or Cam Newton, but he showed Sunday he’s certainly a better quarterback than Kaepernick inside this stunted offense.

Titans 34, Saints 28 • Rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota returned from a knee injury that kept him out of two games to pass for 371 yards and four touchdowns, including a 5-yard scoring pass to Anthony Fasano in overtime that allowed Tennessee to snap a losing streak at six games.

San Francisco’s defense caused issues for the Falcons, who couldn’t punch the football into the end zone late in the fourth quarter and had to settle for a field goal when they needed more. “We had two timeouts and hoped we’d be able to make a stop to get the ball back”, a coach in his situation would say. But it’s also a nice story for Gabbert. “I felt like we were going to have a chance to go down the field and get the field goal to win”, Ryan said. “I always want to be decisive in terms of the way we go about it. At the time, I thought that was the best decision for us to go and win the game”. With a rash of injuries, it sure seemed the reeling 49ers were at a bigger disadvantage than the 4 1/2-point underdogs they were to begin the week, when tight end Vernon Davis got traded to Denver.

“And so, I just wanted to go out there today and just have fun”.

“It was wonderful”, Gabbert said. “I don’t believe that’s accurate”, responded Kaepernick, via ESPN. “Whatever he saw, he told me, and we just kind of worked together well”.

“It was a great overall defensive performance. We re going to keep working through that”. However, San Francisco’s plan to slow him down work to perfection as it forced Atlanta’s hand to become a pass-first team. Or might this “formula” discovered against the Falcons be the norm going forward?

Julio Watch: Jones was targeted 17 times in this game and went over 1000 yards for the year.

And now, Gabbert has high marks as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, whether Tomsula was in a hurry to admit it or not.

“Or any other quarterback”, Celek said. “So throughout all the ups and downs in Jacksonville and through the early parts of my career, I just treated those as learning experiences”. “He’s really good, and he can hurt you in so many different ways, whether it’s vertically down the field or a few of the catch-and-run routes like the wide-receiver screens”.

Usual 49ers backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert will make his second consecutive start versus the Seahawks on Nov. 22
