Blake Griffin, 4 Warriors et al to participate in Team USA minicamp

Clippers’ superstar power forward Blake Griffin will reportedly participate in USA Basketball’s mini camp in August in preparation for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, according to ESPN.

The New York Post reported earlier this week that Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, to that end, plans to attend the minicamp even though he’s unlikely to participate in any basketball activities so soon after knee surgery.

Kevin Love (shoulder) and Andre Drummond will be attending Team USA’s minicamp, though it should be noted that Love will still be rehabbing.

The camp will be held in Las Vegas, with practices on Aug. 11-12 and an intrasquad scrimmage on Aug. 13 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Griffin missed out on opportunities to chase gold medals twice before, having to withdraw due to injuries from the 2012 (torn meniscus left knee) team that won gold at the London Olympics and the team last year (back injury) that rolled to gold at the FIBA World Cup in Spain. One prominent player from last summer’s original 34-player USAB pool who appears poised to remove himself from Olympic consideration is Portland guard Damian Lillard, who was one of the last World Cup cuts by Colangelo and Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski. During a Saturday night appearance on CBS Radio, Lillard told host Jody Mac he would “probably not” play.

Sources told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein, meanwhile, that the newly crowned champion Golden State Warriors expect to have four representatives at the minicamp: Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes.
