Blame game begins as shutdown looms
The House passed a short-term spending bill Thursday night, but the bill lacks enough votes to pass in the Senate. He noted Trump’s tweet in which he said CHIP should not be part of the short-term funding bill.

About 21 percent said President Donald Trump is to blame, 26 percent said Senate Republicans are responsible, and 31 percent said Congressional Democrats would be responsible for a shutdown. The only bipartisan DACA bill in the Senate was tossed aside by Republican leadership earlier in the week.
A test vote on a filibuster of the measure by Senate Democrats appeared likely before the shutdown deadline of Friday at midnight.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says demands by Democrats for a deal on these so-called “Dreamers” has “crowded out” the rest of the Senate’s business, including keeping the government open. (What was that about “legislative arson”?) Democrats and the Obama administration rejected this, and almost 800,000 federal employees were out of work without pay for 16 days. The court said that presidential refusal to enforce immigration law “does not transform presence deemed unlawful by Congress into lawful presence and confer eligibility for otherwise unavailable benefits based on that change”.
Lawmakers in Washington DC have a midnight deadline to agree to the bill amid an ongoing delay in Republicans and Democrats reaching agreement on a longer-term spending bill. The Senate adjourned for the day just after 10pm Thursday and will return at 11am Friday, giving them little time to find a solution to keep the government open. He said that Democrats were not prepared to back the Bill even though they weren’t opposed to anything in the Bill.
A vote could come today. Their support seemingly ensures that the measure will pass the House later Thursday.
North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows leads the Freedom Caucus.
The agreement gets the bill out of the House, but it doesn’t guarantee anything in the Senate.
The White House says the president will stay in Washington until a funding bill is passed.
Republicans controlling the narrowly-divided chamber took up the fight, arguing that Democrats were holding the entire government hostage over demands to protect “Dreamer” immigrants brought to the country illegally as children.
A government shutdown is when Congress doesn’t approve a federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year and nonessential functions of the USA government close until lawmakers can agree on a budget. It would finance government until February 16. Trump warns China on trade deficit MORE (R-Ky.) ripped his Democratic counterparts on Friday, calling their threat “unfair and uncompassionate”.
Negotiations broke down, partially after reports that Trump asked senators why the USA would want more immigrants from “shithole” countries like Haiti and nations in Africa. “I hope not a single Republican is inclined to join them“.
The House of Representatives is due to vote on the spending measure on Thursday afternoon.

“The discussions will continue”, the New York Democrat said.
