Blame it on Rio: Some US companies see sales hit from Olympics

What’s more, YouTube also is sending 15 of its top content creators – including filmmaker Ben Brown and frisbee aficionado Brodie Smith – to the Olympics, and they will be posting both live streaming as well as 360-degree videos to the site. In addition to NBC, you’ll get CNBC, MSNBC, NBC Sports Network, Bravo, Telemundo, and USA. Costas pointedly asked Carillo via a satellite feed before a backdrop of the sprawling Rio skyline and its Maracanã Stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held. But led by Branford-born Jim Bell, the executive producer of Olympics coverage, NBC is ready to rescue TV viewers from mostly terrible summer prime-time viewing as it indulges Olympics mega-fans in record-setting coverage on various “platforms” – network TV and cable channels, NBC.com (with first-time live streams to Wi Fi TVs) and the NBC sports app on other devices.

Olympics and Yahoo have extended an existing digital alliance that factors in content and promotion surrounding the Summer Olympics in Rio, including links to all of NBCOlympics.com’s exclusive live streamed events and video highlights to Yahoo’s US audience.

NBC’s over-the-air network remains the primary destination, though.

Watching the Olympics without cable is easier than ever, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some hurdles that need jumping. The newly introduced Sling Blue streaming service costs $25 per month and bundles NBCSN (which will alone have 330 hours of Olympics coverage this summer), Bravo, and US, plus your local NBC station in select markets. You’ll need a video recorder such as TiVo to record events for later. Sling TV to the rescue: The Dish-owned online TV service is streaming much of what’s airing on NBC and its sister networks to its customers – with some caveats: Sling recently started to stream NBC and Fox broadcast TV in select markets as part of its new Sling Blue package.

NBC’s online resources require an existing cable subscription. Other coverage will be spread around CNBC, MSNBC and USA. Channels like these are normally included in many basic cable packages. View the full schedule, broken up by sport and date. $10 more gets viewers access to the Core package, which includes the Golf Channel. It’s not yet clear whether Vue will get the temporary soccer and basketball channels. You can watch Sling on many connected devices, including Android, iOS and Windows devices. Those restrictions also will apply to some overseas locations. The media world prepared for this event, as it is probably the most important one for the whole world. Content rights restrictions will also apply to some locations outside the continental United States. The service also offers a free seven-day trial.

“I did three Olympics as a member of the news division”, Bell said on Tuesday during a conference call with reporters.
