Blast has no links to foreign ‘terrorism’ – NY
New York’s governor didn’t mince words Sunday as he discussed an explosion that injured 29 people the night before in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.

The Islamic State said he was one of their “soldiers”. “We really were very lucky that there were no fatalities”. All 29 of the injured people were released from the hospital by Sunday afternoon.
Police, firefighters and emergency workers gather at the scene of the explosion in Manhattan on Saturday.
Cuomo said there was “no evidence of global terrorism” as terrorist groups like ISIS have not claimed credit for the bomb.
In an interview on MSNBC later Sunday, Cuomo said the different wording used by him and de Blasio was nothing more than “a question of semantics”.
Early Sunday, police said an investigation into a third suspicious package turned up a bag of trash.
Huge explosion in Chelsea blew this dumpster.
Cell phones were discovered at the site of both bombings, but no Tannerite residue was identified in the New Jersey bomb remnants, in which a black powder was detected, said the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to comment on an ongoing investigation.
What we don’t know: Why did the bomb go off in that location?
NEW YORK (AP) – New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says there is no reason to think that an explosion in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood had a terrorist connection, but he did call the blast an “intentional act”.
What we know: It was a busy first day for O’Neill, the police veteran who has just replaced Bill Bratton as New York’s top cop. “That’s what we have to do more work on”, de Blasio said Sunday.
Still, O’Neill, who was sworn in just a day before the blast, said the situation had him anxious.
“You will see a lot of police presence”, he said.
“The explosives detonated in New York City, that was me”. “You didn’t know if was coming from the subway beneath you, you didn’t know if there were other bombs, you didn’t know where to go”.
“This violent criminal act is going to be solved…” As a precaution, Cuomo said he was deploying an additional 1,000 state troopers and members of the National Guard throughout New York City and police officials promised more officers on the streets ahead of a United Nations meeting on Monday to address the refugee crisis in Syria.
Yet now, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation and NYPD’s Joint Terrorism Task Force investigates the incident, while the bomb squad dissects the pressure cooker, while thousands of heavily armed counter-terrorism officers and members of the National Guard flood the city’s streets, refusing to speak plainly about a terrorist attack seems equally disingenuous and nakedly political.
The New York Police Department says the controlled detonation took place at a police facility in the Bronx on Sunday evening. It is now being examined by bomb technicians at a police facility in Rodman’s Neck in the Bronx. Several people can be seen passing out of view seconds before the explosion.
“I felt it, like a concussive wave, heading towards me”. “There was no fire, just smoke”. De Blasio said that at this point, authorities do not have any specific evidence of a link between the incidents. Daniel Yount, 34, said he was standing on the roof of a building at 25th Street and Avenue of the Americas with friends. Neha Jain, 24, who lives in the neighborhood, said she was sitting in her room watching a movie when she suddenly heard a huge boom and everything shook. “It isn’t very complicated, and instructions for this kind of device have been on the internet for years. Authorities have not linked this bombing to one reported earlier in New Jersey, or blame terrorists”. It has not been confirmed that the object is an explosive device.
So, what actually caused the explosion?

The impact shattered windows, damaged cars and sent crowds running from the scene at an hour when Chelsea, always a popular destination, was filled with residents and tourists.”It was the biggest blast I ever would imagine, lights flashing, glass shattering”, said a woman who was injured in the explosion.
