BNO News is reporting the explosion was the result of a gas leak but it is yet to be confirmed by officials.

One person has been killed and several injured following an explosion at a restaurant in the German city of Ansbach, near Nuremberg.

The interior ministry said that the explosion appeared to have been intentional, contradicting initial reports that suggested it might have been a gas explosion.

A helicopter has been summoned to the scene and rescue workers are on hand to recover any further victims. A music festival nearby was forced to end as the guests were evacuated.

The incident marks the third event in Germany in as many days, after a shooting and a separate machete attack over the weekend.

The blast followed the killing of nine people by an 18-year-old gunman in Munich on Friday.

On Sunday, 21-year-old asylum-seeker from Syria killed a woman, reported to be pregnant, with a meat cleaver in the southern German town of Reutlingen.
