Coordinated bombs exploded in Thailand.

A suspected vehicle bomb went off outside a small hotel in the coastal resort of Pattani in Thailand, near the border with Malaysia.

Since 2004, a low-intensity but brutal war between government troops and insurgents has killed more than 6,500 people in the southern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat that border Malaysia.

The latest bomb struck shortly before midnight outside a hotel on the outskirts of Pattani, one of three Muslim majority southern provinces that have been battered by the 12-year insurgency.

The bombings – caused by homemade devices – went off south of Bangkok and several hit the tourism industry.

He said: “We know where they came from, where they went”.

A spokesperson from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “Bomb and grenade attacks have been indiscriminate, including in places visited by expatriates and foreign travellers”.

National police chief Jakthip Chaijinda has not ruled out that those involved came from Thailand’s Muslim-majority southern provinces.

At least 29 people were injured as result of the blast, Daily Mail reports. “We believe there are at least 20 people involved in this network”.
