Eye-witnesses said two attackers, riding motorcycles, drove into the residence of the PML-N leader and detonated their explosives.

He said the exact nature of the blast was not known yet but “we suspect it was a suicide attack”.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan splinter group – Jamaat-ul-Ahrar – claimed responsibility for the attack.

Speaking to Geo News from Islamabad, Khosa confirmed that he has been in the federal capital since the past two days.

The injured have been shifted to a hospital where six of them are stated to be critical.

Pakistan has always been under attack from local and al-Qaida-linked foreign Islamic militants, killing tens of thousands of people in over a decade.

According to initial reports, the explosion caused a fire at the office of the MNA who was not present in the vicinity at the time of the blast.

He said that the MNA was not present there at the time of the terrorist incident.

A large contingent of police and other law enforcement officials also reached the spot.

Reply to a question regarding possible motives behind the attack, Khosa said he had no life threats or personal enmity.
