Blessing of the Animals at St. Theresa’s in Eagle

In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis on October 1 and in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all of God’s creatures, St. Andrew’s by-the-lake Episcopal Church invites all pets and their human companions to a Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. October 1.

All ages are welcome to bring pets (on a lead or in a crate) for an individual prayer of blessing by the Rev. Randall Day, priest and rector of St. Mark’s, starting at 5 p.m. All pets are welcome and must be leashed or in a travel carrier. Helping provide this effort are St. Francis Church, Porter County Animal Shelter, Best Buddies Pet Pantry, Lakeshore Paws and American Greyhound Rescue. There will be a pet market place, pet and owner photos, children’s activities, agility course, petting zoo and pony rides, a pet contest will be at 3:30 p.m.

Donations accepted to support Wildlife in Need.

Lakeshore Paws, a volunteer-run, nonprofit animal rescue in Valparaiso, will have animals for adoption. Information: www.fpcokc.org. They accept monetary and item donations, see the “Donate” page on their web site. Refreshments will be served for dogs, cats and their human companions.

Feathered and furry creatures will get their chance to shine during a special event commemorating St. Francis of Assisi Day.

Neumann University will host a blessing of animals in Aston Delaware County on Oct. 2
