‘Blessing of the Animals’ honors St. Francis
All creatures and their human friends are invited to the St. Michael School yard after the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, October 4, at St. Mary’s Church for the Blessing of the Pets/Animals. St. Francis is considered the patron saint of animals.

Dan Murphy, communications director at the Cathedral of St. Philip says the church has been holding this type of religious service “for decades”. “It’s a matter of welcoming them”.
For more information on the blessing of the animals, call 201-659-1772.
The service will take place “rain or shine”, Slaymaker said.
Photos of living or deceased pets can also be brought for a blessing, or a stuffed animal representing the pet. Make sure to have your pets properly restrained on a leash, or caged, and please do not leave them in a hot auto during the service.
