Blick, a senior-to-be from Danville, Calif., shot one-under par 69 in the first round at the Olympia Fields Country Club. He shared fifth place at the New England Amateur last month, a week after he qualified for match play at the Massachusetts Amateur.

The Buccaneer leader made a move late in round two, as he was 2-over through his first 10 holes before carding two birdies over a three-hole stretch, moving back to even-par with five holes remaining.

The USGA has projected the cutline at 3-over par, where now 78 players sit. Nurski, 36, won the final seven holes on the front nine and closed out Manawatu’s Munn with a birdie on the 11th.

The tournament continues with six rounds of match play ending in a 36-hole match between the two finalists on Sunday. I was too hard on myself.

But the day belonged to Coletta, who matched Ruffels’ opening round of 66 on the North Course in stormy conditions. Four-time U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Nathan Smith of Pittsburgh had 71 on the South and 74 (145) on the North. “I just watched that guy on TV at the Open”. That’s what it really hits.

“My goal this week was to get into match play, and at this point it looks like I’m going to get in”. His winning three-round score both times was 220. “So having that extra distance and hitting it straight, having those short irons in really helps”.

“The wind is really exposed there”, said Cooke, who now plays for North Carolina State, “so it’s a good training aid for college golf”.

“He has a great attitude”, Small said of Burge. From there, Meronk parred four of his final five holes, but he bogeyed the par-3, 217-yard No. 7 to finish with the 71. “This is the tournament to win”.
