Blind explains decision to axe Memphis Depay
Robin van Persie will not be part of the Netherlands squad for the forthcoming worldwide friendlies against Wales and Germany, head coach Danny Blind announced on Monday during a press conference in Zeist.

Former United striker Robin van Persie was also left out of the squad as the Dutch look to the future having not qualified for the European Championships in France next summer.
Netherlands, who failed to qualify for Euro 2016 after finishing fourth in their group, have recalled captain Arjen Robben after he recovered from a thigh injury.
“In the world of football you have to be able to function in a team and Depay does not always (do that)”.
I think he is a player for the future, but there are other issues to look at. I do not see him playing well, he is not sharp and not fresh and this is not good, because Van Persie is still potentially my best striker.
“But you have to also give players time to come back in a certain shape and that is what we are doing”.
Manchester United winger Memphis Depay missed the team bus ahead of tonight’s Champions League game at home to CSKA Moscow, as per the Daily Mirror.
While United’s squad turned up on the bus together, former PSV man Depay arrived in his black Mercedes five minutes after his teammates. “I said ‘if you are a tall tree, then you can expect criticism'”. I’m convinced he’s coming back maybe stronger than before.
According to the Oranje boss, it was the 21-year old’s incapability to stick to a team structure that say him get omitted from the preliminary squad.
