The DLC is standalone, so you won’t need a copy of StarCraft or StarCraft II to play it.

Blizzard is also looking to reward those who pre-order the Nova Covert Ops: Mission Bundle now.
Nova Covert Ops are three packs which contain three missions each for a total of nine.
This will be the first of three packs that includes new mechanics, with the second and third entries slated for later this year. By comparison, you can now get the base game featuring 22 missions for around $25-30. Their trail leads to a secretive Terran group, the Defenders of Man. As Nova Terra, a psionic ghost trained to be the ideal covert operative, you must delve into the conspiracy before it’s too late for the Terran Dominion.
If you want to play the Nova Covert Ops single player campaign pre ordering may be your best bet, as doing so will net you a sweet Covert Ops skin for Ghost units in StarCraft II. We obviously know it has nothing to do with the main meat and potatoes of the StarCraft story involving Raynor, Kerrigan and the Protoss. If it takes place during Legacy of the Void then it still opens up some strong possibilities for how the galaxy is shaped leading up to the ending.

Blizzard isn’t done with StarCraft 2 just yet, and their next expansion, called Nova Covert Ops, will have three episodes of content with the first one coming on or before June 19th 2016.
