Blizzard Plans to “Keep an Eye” On Cross-Console Play for Overwatch

The Gamespot article notes that in the past Blizzard opted out of pursuing cross-platform play between PC gamers and console gamers in Overwatch because PC gamers would have a clear advantage thanks to the keyboard and mouse. You may get to play with them yet.

This enables players to access their Facebook account from Blizzard titles such as Overwatch, allowing you to connect with your timeline and even stream gameplay footage directly. According to Blizzard’s tweet above it’s a possibility but it all comes down to the console manufacturers and the politics surrounding their networks. They responded, saying that they are keeping an eye on the cross-platform options on consoles.

Responding to a query about cross-platform play, the official Overwatch Twitter stated that now “There is no cross platform play”.

Playsation 4 and Xbox One gamers may soon be able to play Overwatch against one another.

An agreement that Sony probably won’t want to make, as they’re the market leader by quite a bit.

Just because Blizzard’s keen to try it doesn’t mean it will become a reality – Sony’s seemingly blocked an attempt by Psyonix to make Rocket League cross-platform between the world’s two biggest consoles. Would you like see to cross-platform play for Overwatch?
