Governor Cuomo also announced a travel ban for all local and state roads in New York City, Long Island, and the Port Authority’s trans-Hudson crossings starting at 2:30 pm Saturday afternoon.

The governor had issued a state of emergency due to the storm Saturday.
The MTA will determine early Sunday whether to restore above-ground Long Island Railroad, Metro North and subway service.
Either way, this blizzard was one for the history books – the second largest snowfall in New York City since 1869.
“We are going to commence a ban on roads in the downstate area”, Cuomo said today.
Sunday they hope to resume service in NY and CT.
New York City mayor, Bill de Blasio said of the situation; “This is bad, and it’s getting worse rapidly”.
“This storm has come in wetter, strong and further north than most of the models predicted”, said John Davitt, chief meteorologist for NY1, a New York City 24-hour cable news station. De Blasio also strongly urged Broadway shows to cancel performances and restaurants to close: “It’s time for businesses to shut down and get their employees home right away”.
“If you absolutely must leave your home after the state of emergency has been lifted, use extreme caution”, read an emailed statement from the Riverhead Town Police Department.
“We’ll wait to see what actually happens”, Cuomo said at the briefing.
New Jersey Transit has canceled bus service.
There will be no traveling to New York City and more than 500 vehicles are stuck in a turnpike backup in Pennsylvania during the big snowstorm hitting the East Coast.
