While the woman is laughing is the ad, a man looks at her with an expression that offended many women.
The implications of the ad drew outrage from people online, prompting the department store chain to apologize.
The backlash has prompted an apology from Bloomingdale’s, who admit that the copy and accompanying picture were ‘inappropriate and in poor taste’. “Bloomingdale’s sincerely apologizes for this error in judgment”, the company said in a statement.
The ad got a harsh reaction on Twitter, with users saying it promotes rape culture.
Or don’t and quit being a creep…
Here’s Bloomingdales advertising festive date rape and non-consensual drug abuse to sell fashion. The Bloomingdale’s snafu comes just days after H&M put its foot in its mouth on Twitter when one customer tweeted with a request it include more black models in its global marketing campaign.
