Blooper or deliberate? Digvijay Singh calls it ‘India occupied Kashmir’, retracts

Naik has been accused of inspiring youths to take up guns for the cause of jihad. First, we have to create confidence in Kashmir, be it India-occupied Kashmir or Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. “I have said that he (Modi) is not anxious about India’s Kashmir, but he has worries for PoK”, Singh said while trying to clarify. Digvijaya Singh corrected what he said.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has already described Pakistan as “hell” and echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sentiments made during his Independence Day speech that Pakistan should stop violating human rights in Balochistan province and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

At a time when Balochistan leaders are praising India’s efforts for advocating the restive area’s concerns at the global platform, Khurshid, a former union minister, said, “Balochistan is different from any part of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir”. However, when asked why he referred to Kashmir as “India occupied Kashmir”, Singh quickly retracted his statement. “If we have to bring trust in the region, whether its Indian occupied Kashmir or Pakistan occupied Kashmir, we have to do that through talks”, Singh told reporters.

Hitting out at the PM, the Congress leader warned: “PM’s confrontationalist statement will only make the situation worse, not good”.

“Kashmir is an integral part of Kashmir”, the Congress leader asserted.

Aziz had made this announcement last week at a news conference in Islamabad, saying, “Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry would soon write a letter to his Indian counterpart for a dialogue on Kashmir”. He congratulates people from Balochistan.

“I said that Prime Minister Modi is not concerned about India’s Kashmir but about PoK”.
