Blue Buffalo chew bones sold in Washington recalled

Blue Buffalo is recalling one production lot of its Cub Size Wilderness Wild Chew Bones. The product was packaged in shrink-wrapped plastic with UPC number 840243110087 and expiration date November 4, 2017 (exp 110417).

The affected product was distributed on November 19, 2015 in Pet food stores located in: California, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

In the event that customers discover having purchased a product subjected for the voluntary recall, they are instructed to dispose the products or bring it back to the store where they bought it to get a full refund.

There is the potential for this product to be contaminated with salmonella.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the product.

In humans, Salmonella infection can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever, diarrhea or bloody stools. Other clinical signs may include lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting.

Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect humans and other pets.

The product is called “Cub Size Wilderness Wild Chews Bones”. Though rare, individuals may also experience such serious ailments as arthritis, endocarditis, eye irritation, arterial infections, muscle pain and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers who have handled this dog treat and developed these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider.
