Blue Jays acquire infielder Pennington in trade with Diamondbacks
The Toronto Blue Jays are continuing to build for a playoff push with another trade.

Minor-league infielder Dawel Lugo will head to Arizona in the deal.
The Corpus Christi, Texas native has appeared in 72 games this season for the Diamondbacks, 53-55 and third in the National League West. The switch-hitter has started at shortstop, second base, third base and left field this season. 248 hitter with 80 stolen bases in eight seasons with Oakland and the Diamondbacks. The Blue Jays will receive a player capable of playing shortstop that strengthens their infield depth, but they’re also receiving a weak bat that is now hitting.237/.314/.281. Lugo has hit.257/.287/.343 with four home runs in 98 games, but has struggled with Dunedin at the higher level.
The trade comes just hours after Toronto manager John Gibbons told reporters that second baseman Devon Travis is still being bothered by a lingering shoulder injury.

To fill Pennington’s roster spot, the Diamondbacks selected infielder-outfielder Jamie Romak from Triple-A Reno. His 87 RBIs on the year rank second among all minor leaguers.
