It was the 13th time in team history a Mariners player has recorded seven RBI.

Iwakuma (11-6) wobbled early but won his fifth straight decision by limiting the Blue Jays to two runs and four hits in six innings. The 33-year-old IL native, who sets a career high for victories in a season with a win Sunday, is 7-1 at home. Encarnation hit a solo homer in Sunday’s game to help Toronto get the win.

“It means a lot”, Happ said. “It’s a testament to our team”. “A few walks. A few hit batters”.

In St. Louis, Kenta Maeda (9-7) allowed two runs in 5⅔ innings as the Dodgers beat the Cardinals. But Brett Cecil, Jason Grill and Roberto Osuna completed the shutout.

“I didn’t think I was going to be able to throw it anywhere near the plate when it happened”, Miley said.

The Mariners traded Happ to the Pittsburgh Pirates last July 31. Before this start, I was creeping down a little bit and becoming too side-arm. “We had our chances, but couldn’t get anything going against Happ”.

Probably all over baseball there probably hasn’t been a more consistent starter out there. “He’s a better pitcher than he’s ever been”. The Mariners are 0-5 in Wade Miley’s last 5 starts. Justin Smoak hit his 11th homer of the season in the eighth, a two-run shot against LeBlanc, who pitched the final three innings to pick up his first save of the season.

“I thought Wade Miley threw the ball very well”, Mariners manager Scott Servais said. He careened from one jam to another but limited the Mariners to two runs in six innings.

In Chicago, with ace Chris Sale scratched following a clubhouse incident, the White Sox used six pitchers before their game was suspended by rain after eight innings tied at 3. “Just go out there when it’s you turn to pitch and try to get outs”.

“I don’t remember the last time I had that many runners on base”, Cruz said.

“(Happ) did a great job today”, Mariners catcher Mike Zunino said.

Encarnacion opened the scoring with a two-out drive to center in the fourth, his 27th. Edwin Encarnacion has popped 96 hits with 61 runs, 27 homers and 87 RBI thus far.

It was his 224th home run with the Blue Jays, breaking a tie with Vernon Wells and giving him sole possession of third place on Toronto’s all-time list.

Encarnacion made a diving play at first base in the fifth to deprive Leonys Martin of a hit.

The Blue Jays added to their lead in the sixth when a Josh Thole double was followed by a failure to get the lead runner at third on a ground ball to Dae-Ho Lee.

Left-hander Franklin Morales replaced Dickey and got a double play grounder from Smith that allowed another run to score to give Seattle a 6-1 lead.

It was the eighth career multi-homer game for Saunders, who also went deep on Friday night. Bo Schultz ended the inning.

Joaquin Benoit pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth for Seattle.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ bullpen has been an issue this season, and one of the biggest issues was designated for assignment, that issue being Drew Storen.
