Blue Jays look to turn fortunes against Rays

As is his custom, Estrada generated loads of weak contact on Wednesday, inducing a smattering of infield pops and limp grounders from the White Sox, who had little answer for his stealthy mix of pitches for most of the night.

Chavez gave up a triple to Jackson to nearly the exact same spot in the outfield in the next at bat, cashing in Navarro and making it 3-0.

“When the season started, that’s what I said, ‘This is a new year for everybody, ‘” Quintana said.

“There’s nothing else I could have done”, Estrada said. “I was feeling pretty good but it just kind of got away from me”.

Up came Navarro, with Estrada still on the mound with a pitch count of 115. “I was fortunate enough to get a changeup in the strike zone and put some good wood on it”.

The Toronto Blue Jays entered the bottom of the ninth inning Monday night trailing the Chicago White Sox by two runs. It’s not just Chicago’s record, but who they have beaten and sometimes where they have won. Hopefully, a day off and a change of scenery can break the Jays’ bats out of their slump.

“They have a lot of confidence right now, ” manager Robin Ventura said of team. “Both of those guys were battling”.

Asked if he was showing up Cecil with his dugout antics, Stroman replied: “I don’t think so at all”.

“Estrada probably took something off. Different styles going in there”. They mounted a small rally to get the potential winning run to the plate in the form of Michael Saunders.

Estrada threw 29 pitches in a seventh inning that saw him surrender three earned runs on two hits, including a triple to former teammate Dioner Navarro. Frazier delivered his second hit – and Chicago’s second hit – to lead off. Melky Cabrera then stroked a slow bouncer to short that the Jays failed to turn into a double play, getting only the lead runner.

White Sox: LHP Jose Quintana (2-1, 1.82) puts his ideal record in Toronto on the line.

Navarro, a lumbering runner, rarely hits triples.

“I didn’t actually test positive for the drug itself”, said Colabello in the 10-minute interview. “I filled up that zero”.

I don’t know what the final score was, but apparently, Toronto got hammered. “The next stat is a stolen base”. Austin Jackson followed with an RBI triple to make it 3-0 and Avisail Garcia drove in the fourth run with a single in the eighth.

And what a time to return: When Jays’ infielder Darwin Barney is listed as the team’s back-up catcher, with Martin missing the first two games of the series due to a neck injury.

“I said something to the third base umpire about a checked swing”, said Gibbons. Adam Eaton worked a walk, but was left on second base (stole second) after Jimmy Rollins flied out to center field.

Left-hander Zach Duke replaced Quintana and pitched a flawless seventh. But in Chicago, baseball fans might tell you that the bigger story is the surprising White Sox.
