Blue Jays Rise Over Yankees With 8-Run 8th Inning

It was the second homer of the night for Sanchez, and both came off of Estrada’s change up; which is surprising because Estrada had only allowed four home runs all year on his change up before this game.

You would think that beating the 1st place team would leave Yankee Fans feeling good.

Aug 14, 2016; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Toronto Blue Jays former pitchers Dave Stieb and Pat Hentgen and Roy Halladay Trio Bobblehead giveaway presented by Rogers to the first 20,000 fans before a game against the Houston Astros at Rogers Centre.

Or maybe it was just Michael Pineda’s early exit.

This is Green’s fifth stint with the Yankees this season.

The Blue Jays will be looking to beat the Yankees for the ninth time in 12 meetings after storming back from a six-run deficit for a 12-6 victory Tuesday.

From there? A different game emerged and it was all Toronto. Toronto ranks sixth with 567 runs.

Devon Travis started the sixth with a double to deep left, followed by a Josh Donaldson single that would cut the lead to five runs.

The only run the Yankees needed was delivered by Aaron Judge, another fresh-off-the-farm prospect, who is now hitting.500 with three RBI and two home runs in his four games as a big-leaguer. It was 6-3 in blink of an eye.

After Russell Martin hit an RBI single, Melvin Upton Jr. drilled Sabathia’s 0-1 pitch into the right-field stands for a three-run blast. That sent Joe Girardi’s club on its way to yet another disappointing defeat. On this night, it didn’t work.

After a scoreless seventh inning by Tyler Clippard, relievers Shreve and Adam Warren (BS, L) each gave up 4 runs.

Michael Pineda (6-10, 5.07 ERA) and Marco Estrada (7-5, 2.95 ERA) are on the hill in the second of a three-game series between the New York Yankees (61-57) and the Toronto Blue Jays (67-52) at Yankee Stadium.

Three batters later, Martin hit his second homer of the game, scoring Troy Tulowitzki ahead of him to give the Jays the lead. The Yankees are 3-9 vs. Toronto. Blake Parker entered with the bases still loaded and Toronto already staring at a six-spot on the board.

Logan Forsythe of the Tampa Bay Rays led off the game with a sharp line drive into left field and Kevin Kiermaier followed that with a bunt single.

TURNING POINT: The rain delay. They still weren’t done, batting around and manufacturing runs getting to a grand total of eight in the eighth. The Baby Bomber movement is in full swing. Joaquin Benoit gave up an RBI single to rookie Aaron Judge that made it 7-4, and Roberto Osuna struck out Didi Gregorius on a 97 miles per hour fastball with two on to end the inning. It might be time to move the kids up. The Baltimore Orioles, who now share first place with the Blue Jays, head to the Bronx for three games later this month.

It is not uncommon for a manager to shelve his starting pitcher after a rain delay, but it is also not unheard of for a manager to stick with one who was pitching as well as Pineda – five innings pitched, four hits, zero runs – in a game as important to the Yankees’ wild-card hopes as this one, especially after a relatively short delay.
